We’ve taken a deep dive into the top-rated trimmers for your balls, back, pits and everywhere else by tasking our editors with the job of analysing each tool’s performance and features. We tested devices from a wide range of brands, but these four are the very best we tried and would genuinely recommend.

'On the cutting edge of cutting pubes' boasts Manscaped on its website, and I'd have to agree. From the weighty, ergonomic feel to the skin-safe ceramic blades and adjustable guards and attachments, The Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra is the best body groomer we tested, earning its position at the top of our guide.

And while the Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra may indeed be on the cutting edge of manscaping, you never feel on the edge when using it. That's thanks to a combination of a trimmer blade and a foil blade, both of which utilise Manscape's signature SkinSafe technology. But does this actually prevent nicks and cuts?

The short answer is yes. I haven't had any accidents (yet) and I've spent some considerable time putting it through its paces, using it to prune all manner of areas.

When it comes to its cutting ability, the great thing about the Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra is that you can use the adjustable skin-safe trimmer attachment to shape your body hair to the desired length and shape, and then use the foil attachment to shave down stubble where you want a smooth finish. The only downside is that it's a bit fiddly when switching between all the attachments.

Convenient and straightforward to use, the Philips Bodygroom Series 7000 is a pared-back body hair trimmer that does away with unnecessary attachments, allowing you get on with the job at hand with minimal fuss.

The dual-sided design allowed our testers to seamless transition between trimming and shaving – all without having to switch between heads. This functionality really shone when trimming in the shower, as all you have to take with you is the trimmer itself, rather than a handful of attachments.

In terms of how well it cut hair, the clipper-style head, with five length settings ranging from 3mm to 11mm, was great for trimming chest, pubic and armpit hair to differing lengths. When it came to shaving, the 4D contoured shaver head provided a smooth and comfortable finish, although it's worth moving with caution when using to trim delicate areas.

We don't need to spell out the damage that can be done to your privates if your groomer isn't set up for such a sensitive task. The Braun Body Groomer 5 limits the risk with its signature 'SkinShield' tech and sensitive comb, which lets you get as close a shave as possible without your skin touching the blades.

When we tested the Body Groomer 5, we found that it gave us a totally irritation-free shave and it was easy to get into those hard-to-reach areas as easy as possible. The built-in length adjuster on the top right hand side also allows you to alter the closeness of your shave without any faff.

If you'd prefer to own one do-it-all grooming device, the Braun 9-in-1 Trimmer Series 5 is an excellent value option that comes with all the attachments you could need.

For body hair, there are two fixed comb guards for precise grooming and styling, while the sensitive body comb allows you to trim around your pubic area with confidence.

As the Braun Series 5 doubles as a beard trimmer, it doesn't feature the same skin-safe blades as other devices on this list. Our tester also found was more powerful than dedicated body groomers, so we'd suggest proceeding with caution when using it on hair below your belt.

As for the device itself, it's 100% waterproof, provides up to 100 minutes of cordless use and comes with a handy storage pouch for keeping all the attachments organised.

If the idea of motorised steel blades vibrating around your balls is a concept you struggle to fully get behind, you should know that the old-fashioned way of trimming is still a viable option, provided you buy a razor that's gently on your skin.

With three precision blades designed to provide a close finish and cut through thick hairs with ease, The Crop Shaver from Manscaped is specifically designed for shaving the groin without any mishaps.

The pivoting head and ergonomic design ensure you can glide around your entire pubic region (and other areas) with confidence, while the extra wide lubrication strips with avocado oil, argan oil, aloe vera, and vitamin E help to reduce irritation and to soothe your skin.

The razor is smaller than I expected it to be, although this actually proved useful when it came to those finishing touches.

Our team of grooming experts have tested every body groomer and pubic hair trimmer in this guide (and more). Using each tool to trim body hair (think armpits, back, chest, balls and everything in between), our testers each rated every trimmer's cutting ability, battery life, water resistance claims and performance. The products featured passed our rigorous at-home tests and display our Editor’s Choice badge.

Believe it or not, relying on a beard trimmer to handle all your grooming needs without any additional investment may not be the wisest decision. Let's face it, using the same device to trim both your facial hair and your intimate regions is a questionable choice.

Aside from basic hygiene considerations, subjecting your balls to a fast-moving, deep-cutting beard trimmer sounds like a scene straight out of a horror flick. Manscaping requires finesse, precision, and a healthy dose of patience.

To sculpt your pubic hair without any bloodshed, you'll need the assistance of a dedicated pubic hair trimmer or full body groomer – or, failing that, a dedicated body hair attachment. These nifty devices typically boast long-lasting batteries, protective guards to safeguard your prized possessions, ergonomically designed handles for optimal control, and even a handy LED light to guide your way with care. Here's what to look for when shopping for one.

During our testing, our team noticed a few key features that are worth keeping an eye out for. From waterproofing to battery life, these additional extras will help make your manscaping session that much easier.

It’s down to personal preference whether you trim wet or dry, but when it comes to clearing up your trimmings, it’s arguably easier to tidy up in the shower, as the water washes away your hair. For that, you’ll need a trimmer that’s waterproof.

All the body groomers featured in this guide claim to be 100% waterproof – and we can personally attest to those claims, having tested each trimmer’s performance both in and out of the shower.

If you have sensitive skin, a manscaping session in the shower can also help to keep irritation to a minimum, as the heat and steam from hot water opens up your pores and softens hair, making it easier to cut.

On the other hand, trimming dry hair can tend to give you more control and therefore a more even finish. Wet hair naturally looks different when it dries and it can tend to clog up your trimmer head more than dry hair. Plus, you don’t have the added distraction of water falling on your when your trim dry.

You may not always want to go for the bald eagle, so check your trimmer comes with guards or adjustable length settings so that you have more options when it comes to styling.

Guards are also important when it comes to protecting your skin, particularly if you’re using an all-in-one trimmer that’s primarily meant for styling beard hair. A bare trimmer without a guard may be fine for tidying up your neckline, but using it around your balls could risk you cutting your skin.

While not as crucial as other aspects, extras are still worth thinking about. Some trimmers come bundled with convenient accessories like charging bases, extra trimmer heads, and even nose hair trimmer attachments. Even a simple carry case can be a handy addition for taking it away with you on your travels.

There's definitely such a thing as too many attachments though, so if you don't fancy having to fiddle between heaps of heads and guards, opt for an all in one device that lets you quickly alter the cutting length.

The charge time is another thing worth keeping an eye out for. After all, you don’t want to risk being left with half-trimmed balls moments before a Netflix and chill session. A speedy charge-up time or even a quick-charge feature can be handy when you’re short for time but long on hair.
